What you need to avoid is pouring FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) in the kitchen sink?

When we warn our customers to be cautious with FOG, it's not just a matter of driving—we refer to the kitchen. Pouring fats, oil, and grease (FOG) in the kitchen sink could damage your plumbing and your bank balance. The solidified substances could clog your pipes, which can lead to obstructions.

Let's look at why dumping grease or cooking oil in the kitchen drain or any drain, for that matter, is not a good decision and what you can take instead.

What happens when the grease flows to the drain?

The oil, fat, or grease you pour into the kitchen sink begins as a liquid, but it doesn't remain that way for long. Within minutes the grease will cool down and becomes solid - inside your pipes.

Since the grease is solid, it is now a snare to other substances that find their way into your pipes, including food leftover food scraps. In the end, this slow stoppage could become annoying as you'll observe that your sink will drain slower. In some cases, it could cease to drain completely.

If you're thinking, "Alright, if the kitchen isn't so good, I'll just pour it out into the drain." You must be very careful about what appears to be an alternative. Similar to the kitchen, pouring grease down your toilet can (you guessed it) cause it to solidify and block the sewer line.

How can I remove cooking grease in a proper way?

Where can you get rid of grease from the kitchen sink or toilet drain? That's easy. Allow the grease to become solid and cool. Then, dump it in your trash can. Cleaning up could be a hassle, but be certain to give any oily areas a proper clean.

Cleaning a grease clog from the kitchen sink

If you think you've got a clog caused by grease in your kitchen sink, you can try breaking it up using vinegar, baking soda, and hot water. Grease clogs can be incredibly stubborn, and if this method isn't working, then the next best option is to consult with a professional.
